The subject of faith was rarely raised during the municipal election campaign. But mayor-elect Naheed Nenshi said Wednesday at a Christian prayer breakfast that much has been made of his Muslim faith in the past few days since his election.
"I think I've spoken more about faith in the last 24 hours than I did in the last 24 months," said Nenshi at the annual Leadership Prayer Breakfast, also known as the mayor's prayer breakfast.
"But I've seized that opportunity to tell a story about Calgary. It tells the story about the kind of place we are -- a place where faith, while central to community life, is also a place where faith is but one part of the contribution we make to the community."
