French woman faces jail for wearing the burka

It appears as if France is, for the first time, about to jail a woman for wearing the burka.

Hind Ahmas was arrested for wearing the Islamic veil on April 11 in Paris. She had already refused to pay a fine of approximately £100 for the same offence on another occasion, and has now been told to attend 15 days worth of civic duties training.

However, she refuses to do so and is now facing two years in prison and a £27,000 fine. She was not allowed into her hearing at court because she refuses to remove her veil, and now plans to take her case to the European Court of Human Rights. [The Henry Jackson Society] Read more
