‘Hate preacher’ Dr Zakir Naik broadcasts to Britain

The “personal television station” of an Islamic preacher who was banned from entering Britain is being broadcast to millions of homes despite concerns about extremist content, an investigation has found.

The Indian founder of Peace TV was barred from this country by Theresa May in 2010 when she was the home secretary after he praised Osama bin Laden and said “all Muslims should be terrorists”.

Zakir Naik’s television station is still available to Sky subscribers, despite having previously broken the broadcasting code by showing controversial material.

Peace TV’s line-up has included Bilal Philips, who was named by the US as a co-conspirator in the 1993 World Trade Center bombing, and Hussain Ye, a Malaysian cleric who claimed that a “group of Jews” were “having a party” when they heard the 9/11 attacks had taken place. [The Times (£)] Read more
