Mecca-based Muslim outfit prohibits depiction of religious figures in movies

FILMS depicting religious characters may have the effect of “denigrating and devaluing” figures such as “holy” prophets, and “may be used to used as an excuse to ridicule them”.

So says The Fiqh (Islamic Jurisprudence) Council, part of the Muslim World League based in Mecca, which warned that images – not of the prophet himself but of his companions – were creeping into movies and television series.
