At bottom, I suppose, there's the feeling: well, if he still doesn't get it after all this - if this intelligent well-educated young man still persists in his delusions, after all the blood that's been shed in the name of the Prophet by men who can quote chapter and verse to justify their barbarity - then what hope is there?
Sadly, though, that is not helpful. There's no chance of Muslims deserting the fold en masse, much as we might like to dream. The mosques of the world are not about to echo to the sound of apostates and renegades standing up and renouncing Islam and all its teachings.
