Jeremy Hunt today stood up for Birmingham schools facing protests over equality teaching, pledging to ‘defend their right’ to talk about LGBT families to young children.
Being gay, he said, is like being left handed - “it is something you are born with, it is not something you can choose, it is not something you can change, so we have to recognise that every child needs to understand that.”
Mr Hunt’s comments received a standing ovation during today’s hustings event at Birmingham’s Symphony Hall, the first of a series ahead of a Conservative members’ vote to decide the next Tory leader and the country’s next Prime Minister.
