Food labels set to show if animals were not stunned

.... Lord Gardiner of Kimble, the animal welfare minister, was asked in the House of Lords whether the government would introduce a labelling requirement to help to avoid that situation. He said: “It is absolutely essential that everyone can make an informed choice. We will be considering this issue in the context of our departure from the EU.”

He said existing labelling schemes such as Red Tractor and RSPCA Assured already gave a guarantee that the animal had been stunned, though that was not stated on the label.

John Fishwick, president of the British Veterinary Association, said that non-stun slaughter should be banned — but while it was still permitted, the meat should be clearly labelled. “We are encouraged to hear the minister commit that the government will consider the introduction of labelling as the UK leaves the EU. We are keen to continue working with the government on this.”

[TOP RATED COMMENT] This inhumane slaughter of animals should simply be banned. Antiquated religious mumbo jumbo should not take precedence over animal welfare. If you must obey your religion then take the vegetarian option instead of mistreating your God's creatures.

[EQUAL TOP RATED COMMENT] Just ban it, it is disgusting and inappropriate in our society.

[3RD] There should be no halal or kosher meat, this cutting of the throat to assist in the draining of the blood by the still beating heart was essential in times without refrigeration, there is now no need for it, it was a health issue not a religious one, that originally drove this method.
