The major study, which surveyed 28,000 people from across the 28 member states, revealed an overwhelming view of incompetence of Brussels leaders.
Researchers surveyed EU citizens in each member state and found most (83 per cent) thought Brussels needed to protect borders more effectively, with populations in France, Belgium and the UK the most fearful of terrorist attacks.
