DIVORCE, multiple relationships and domestic violence occur in many communities but the way in which sharia law may condone them is causing great suffering for many Muslim women in Britain.
According to sharia law a man may divorce his wife just by saying “I divorce you” three times.
But if the wife wants a divorce she may have to pay a fee and fulfil other difficult conditions.
As Home Secretary Theresa May highlighted in March there is evidence of such women being left in penury.
She even suggested wives have been “forced to return to abusive relationships” because sharia councils say a husband has a right to “chastise”.
